The ideal first step to a toxic free beauty routine

Time to switch to a natural deodorant?

We get exposed to thousands of chemicals and toxins when we use soaps, shampoos, lotions, beauty products and deodorants. Some of the most harmful chemicals are normally included in most deodorants and antiperspirants that we buy. You should always read the ingredients list carefully even if the label says “clean” or “natural”. Some disadvantages using a deodorant with chemicals are that the body is unable to eliminate toxins and the ability to regulate body temperature is reduced. Then there is the question if it can cause cancer?

Some say that there is a link between deodorants and some sort of cancers, specifically breast cancer. Only a few studies have been done and two of the studies did not find any relationship between breast cancer and underarm antiperspirants/deodorants. Another study done in 2004 found parabens in 18 out of 20 samples of tissue from breast tumours.

Here are 5 different toxins that you should avoid that you probably can find in your artificial deodorant:

o   Aluminium Compounds
These are the ingredients that clog your pores and prevent you from sweating. Exposure to too much Aluminium has been linked with a higher risk for Alzheimer’s disease and it also interferes with our natural oestrogen levels. Which might lead to a higher risk of breast and prostate cancer. The Aluminium is also what stains your clothes.

o   Parabens
This might be the most harmful toxin in our deodorants. This substance sometimes acts as oestrogen in our bodies and can interfere with our hormonal balance and the production of our normal oestrogen. This disruption can lead to early puberty and might have an impact on hormone related cancers in women.

o   Tricolosan
Is used as an antibacterial agent. This toxin reacts with tap water and creates chloroform gas with is a potential carcinogen.

o   Propylene Glycol
This ingredient can cause damage to liver, heart and nervous system. And is known to irritate skin.

o   Artificial Colours.
Can cause allergic reactions and are also known as carcinogens.

Natural deodorants are packed with good ingredients that will not harm your body. They are better for the environment and will reduce your carbon footprint. These deodorants do not clog your pores with chemicals. Instead, they are made with natural minerals and plant extract. Using a natural deodorant will balance your hormones, improve skin, unclog your pores and help the body’s natural detoxing process. Some say that it can take up to a few months for the body to get used to a natural deodorant. But we have found one that works quickly.
